'Cardboard Gates'
Jun 6 2007

In his first exhibition in Toronto, street artist Specter is pleased to present Cardboard Gates. The exhibition invites the public to view, critique and share the experience of street art and its transformation into an indoor legal space. Cardboard Gates is a series that was created specifically for the Resistor Gallery and emphasizes the motivations, meanings and processes behind the collection.

Shaped by his artistic roots in graffiti, Specter is one of the few 3D street artists in North America.  His innovative installations push the boundaries of urban culture and space, and have inspired other street artists to step outside of the stencil norm, traditionally associated with the medium. His installations create a discourse between the environment and his imagination, transforming urban spaces into works of art. The show is a rare inside look at how these pieces are created and the intentions behind their production.
